Gaming & Approach

Not at all. Some young people game every day; others haven't touched a controller. The gaming and play approach is one tool among many - we also use conversation, storytelling, D&D, and other creative approaches. What matters is finding what works for each person.

It depends on the person and what's working for them that day. It might involve playing a game together online, talking while something's running in the background, exploring a D&D scenario, or just having a conversation. The format is flexible and always follows the client's lead. There's no script.

Finding the Right Fit

That's one of the most common things we hear. Traditional therapy can be genuinely hard for neurodivergent young people - the expectation to sit still, talk, and perform emotional work in a clinical space is a lot. At Good Game, we start with relationship and trust, through play and games, before anything heavier. There's no pressure to open up before you're ready.

That's exactly what the free 15-minute consultation is for. We'll have a chat about what you or your young person is looking for, and suggest the counsellor who's the best match. There's no commitment required - just a conversation.

Online Counselling

For a lot of people - especially neurodivergent people - online therapy is actually more comfortable and effective. You're in your own space, with your own setup. We've found that the online format often makes it easier to open up, not harder.

NDIS & Cost

Possibly, depending on how your plan is managed. We're an unregistered provider, which means we can work with self-managed and plan-managed participants. If your plan is agency-managed, you'd need a registered provider for that funding. Head to our NDIS page for the full picture, or just reach out and we'll help you work it out.

Sessions & Progress

That varies a lot and depends on what's going on and what you're hoping to get from it. Some people come for a few months; others stay longer. We review progress regularly and always try to be honest about whether sessions are still useful. There's no lock-in.

That's an important question and we take it seriously. Counselling has limits, and our counsellors are honest about them. If at any point it seems like a higher level of support is needed - psychiatric input, crisis services, a multidisciplinary team - we'll help you access that and can continue working alongside those supports where appropriate.
